Nutrition Education!

The Child Nutrition department has been working hard to bring nutrition education opportunities to the students and families of the district.

Department staff lead workshops for parents about how to read nutrition labels. Participants how to make informed decisions about the food they purchase for their families, and about the changes coming to the nutrition label.

Child Nutrition staff also lead nutrition education lessons for all kindergartners at Bay elementary, teaching them about food groups.

One of the most exciting opportunities our students at Colonial Acres had was a visit from the mobile dairy classroom. This interactive lesson brings a cow to the school! Children discuss the food groups, the nutrients found in each, and get to see a cow be milked. Everyone, including the teachers had a great time.

Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand.

The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
